FRATE SOLE FOUNDATION EUROPEAN AWARD OF SACRED ARCHITECTURE DISSERTATION, PHD AND MASTER 3rd EDITION - 2009
RULES OF COMPETITION
1. Aim of the Award The “Frate Sole” Foundation, in order to highlight the contribution of young graduates who have done dissertations related to a Christian Church project, has set up the second European Award for Sacred Architecture for the year 2009. The purpose of this Award is to encourage, since the early University period, interest and research in the area of cult architecture and to enhance artistic and mystical qualities in order to develop a sacred space of spiritual exaltation in line with the acquired Community concept of liturgical action.
2. Admission to the competition The Competition is open to all Graduates who have completed their final examination, as an individual or as a group, after the 1.4.2006 and not beyond the 15.4.2009 in any European Faculty of Architecture or any Italian Faculty of Building Engineering. According to the call for bids, architects and engineers with a PhD thesis or an A level master in sacred architecture with a project for a new Church are admitted to the competition. All projects having as supervisor or collaborator of the dissertation, one or more members of the Jury will be accepted, although excluded from the Competition. All those applications not belonging to above mentioned categories will be excluded as well as those who took part to previous editions of the Prize with the same project.
3. Requirements The Award application, under total acceptance of the terms and conditions, must contain all relevant personal data and must be accompanied by: A pdf file of a Degree certificate in A4 format, The architectural project discussed in the dissertation in A3 format (in a number suggested of five pages) pdf file; An abstract of the dissertation of no more than three pages, in A4 format, pdf file; The registration form filled out that can be downloaded (clic here) from the Web site and that must be e-mailed in a pdf file, in A4 format; Materials for the publication on the website www.fondazionefratesole.org (5 images 800x600 px, .jpg format; resolution 72 dpi; 5 files with the title and description of the 5 images, txt format and a document summarizing the cv of the participant in less than 3000 types .txt format).
4. How to participate The documents described in point 3 above must be e-mailed to the “Frate Sole” Foundation address, before the 5.5.2009. Registrations in any other format will not be accepted. A Competition diploma will be given to all the applicants. An email confirmation will be sent to all the applicants.
5. Questions Telephone contacts/queries are not allowed. Any questions can be sent by fax or e-mail before the 30.4.2009. On the web site, a FAQ document is also available since February 2009. Languages accepted are Italian and English.
6. Evaluation panel Projects presented will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee of the Frate Sole Foundation.
7. Prize Amount Following the Evaluation panel proposal, the Board of Directors of the “Frate Sole” Foundation, will allocate 8000 € either to an individual or to a group-project, with a minimum amount of 1500 €. Mentions of excellence may be marked out.
8. Winner(s) announcement The results will be published on the Foundation’ site by July 2009.
9. Award ceremony The Award ceremony will take place in Pavia in October 2009; the detailed program will be communicated shortly.
10. Copyright protection Documents presented will not be returned but stored in the “Frate Sole” Foundation archives. The “Frate Sole” Foundation reserves the right to either publish information, or to use graphical information for publications without any notification to the person in question. According to the Italian Law about copyright of 22.4.1941 n. 633, it is assured to the Planners, the intellectual ownership of the proposal advanced, whose possible following use, total or partial, by the Public Administration, Dioceses, or privates, will be possible only under condition of a preventive professional agreement with respective authors.
