What is the DEA Award
The DEA Award is a competition of ideas promoted by the Brother Sun Foundation in collaboration with ANCE Pavia and with the involvement of the Higher Secondary Schools in the Province of Pavia and theUniversity of Pavia.
The Award was created with the aim of bringing high school students closer to the culture of design and reflection on architecture, fostering a concrete dialogue between school education, the university environment and the professional world.
A dialogue between school, university and project
Through the competition, students are called upon to tackle a specific design theme, developed from the analysis of a contemporary church awarded in the International Prize for Sacred Architecture.
The DEA Award is thus part of a path that links study, research and design practice.
Areas of work and project approaches
The work required of the students is located within the educational pathways of the schools involved and is divided into two distinct areas: on the one hand, design related to the design and interior spaceson the other hand, the analysis and in-depth study of building systems, sustainability and inclusiveness.
In this way, the DEA Award emphasises different approaches to design, linking formal, functional and constructive aspects.
Confrontation with the professional world
A central element of the Award is the encounter between students and the world of professional design.
The direct confrontation with architects and designers allows participants to measure themselves against real experiences, stimulating a greater awareness of the design process and the cultural role of architecture.
An educational and cultural experience
The DEA Award is therefore configured as an educational and cultural experience that is not limited to competition, but aims to offer students an opportunity for growth, orientation and openness towards the future of design, in keeping with the mission of the Frate Sole Foundation to promote the quality of architecture and built space.
