A song of light and matter
On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi, the Diocesan Museum of Pavia, in collaboration with the Fondazione Frate Sole and Studio Ricerca Arte Sacra, presents the exhibition Everything sings creationdedicated to the works of Father Costantino Ruggeri, Franciscan friar, painter and sculptor.
The exhibition is part of the regional project 'Museo Diffuso. Everything sings creation'which unites twelve diocesan museums in Lombardy in a shared journey between art and spirituality, inspired by the Canticle of the Creatures.
The works on show
The exhibition features some stained glass sketches and a mixed media sculpture by the artist friar.
In his stained glass windows, Father Constantine translates the words of the CanticleLight becomes a symbol of the divine, matter is transfigured into colour, and nature becomes prayer.
The works dialogue with the archaeological site of the Romanesque crypt, an integral part of the Museum, where the relationship between light and darkness becomes a narrative and spiritual element. Through the reflections of the stained glass windows and the material strength of the sculptures, the visitor is invited to rediscover the beauty of creation as a sign of praise and harmony.
"Praised be You, my Lord, with all Your creatures,
Spetialmente messor lo frate sole..."
